Greetings!

Hope everyone is having a nice and scary Halloween and is ready to visit us at our new winter location - Home Grown Farm Market ("Red Barn"). Should be a nice day Saturday, partly sunny and mid-60's.  This week we'll be bringing:

- Tuscan Kale:  Yes, it's that time of year again! Kale time! See our Website for recipes.

- Carrots: sweet, crisp, tender, fresh...what more can we say?

- Salad Mix (Back!):  It's easy, fast, fresh and delicious.

- Lettuce:  Bibb, Red, and Romaine!

- Scallions: fresh, green, crisp, with a mild onion flavor. 

- Chinese Mustard Greens: Related to kale, cabbage, and collard greens, they are the tasty, peppery leafy greens of the mustard plant and are used frequently in Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cooking.

- Arugula: that spicy green you love!

- Bok Choy:  bright green member of the cabbage family brings flavor, vitamins, and a delightful crunch to any recipe.

- Beets, Chioggia and Golden

- Broccoli Raab (a.k.a, Rapini): a delicious, slightly bitter green that is a favorite in Italian cuisine.

- Baby Ginger:  More of our fresh, sweet, aromatic ginger is coming to market.

-  Sweet Potatoes:  Wonderful roasted, baked, fried...easy and delicious anytime!

- Jalapeno Peppers: essential to any salsa or fall chili.

- Onions:

- Yellow onions:  great basic onion, used cooked in all dishes.
- Cippolini Italian: wonderful flavor, slightly sweet, great carmelized

- Garlic:  "hard-neck" garlic, the flavor favored by chefs

Greetings!

Fall weather is here and it's time to get your comfort food, at the last BAE Farmer's Market for 2013, but it doesn't end there...see below. This week we'll be bringing:

- Tuscan Kale (New!):  Yes, it's that time of year again! Kale time! See our Website for recipes.

- Carrots (New!): sweet, crisp, tender, fresh...what more can we say?

- Butternut Squash (New):  A sure sign of fall...sweet and nutty.

- Scallions (New!): fresh, green, crisp, with a mild onion flavor. 

- French Sorrel (New!): the surprisingly tart green. Great in salads and with grilled salmon. Famous for making a sorrel cream sauce for fish.

- Acorn Squash:  "Honey Bear" personal size 4" round, mini-acorn squash.  Just the right size halved for single servings. Honey Bear has a delicious, sweet flavor.

- Chinese Thick Stem Mustard Greens: Related to kale, cabbage, and collard greens, they are the tasty, peppery leafy greens of the mustard plant and are used frequently in Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cooking.

- Arugula: that spicy green you love

- Baby Ginger:  More of our amazing ginger is coming your way this Saturday.  We have the first of our fresh, sweet, aromatic ginger coming to market.

-  Sweet Potatoes:  Orangish Covington, reddish beauregard and Purple Murasaki

- Lettuce:  Bibb, Red, and Green!

- Oranos Sweet Peppers: tasty, sweet, raw or cooked.

- Padron Peppers: Delicious sauteed as a Spanish tapas. About every 15th is hot.  

- Jalapeno Peppers: essential to any salsa

- Fish Peppers: The white and green-striped, fruity, hot peppers that are part of the Chesapeake Bay's history of cuisine.  These are great in salsa too.  They have a nice hot, fruity finish.  Try Them!

- Onions:

- Cippolini Italian: wonderful flavor, slightly sweet, great carmelized

Greetings Friends,

All and all, things are going swimmingly well on the farm.  Another busy week spent cleaning up after our tomatoes, cukes, summer squash crops.  We also planted a few fig trees, and continue to harvest sweet potatoes and plant new crops in our high tunnel (unheated greenhouse).  

By the way, the last day of the BAE Farmer's Market is 26 October - mark your calendars.  After that, we'll move south to the Home Grown market ("Red Barn") beginning 2 November.  

For this week, we'll have the following veggies:

- Acorn Squash (New):  "Honey Bear" personal size 4" round, mini-acorn squash.  Just the right size halved for single servings. Honey Bear has a delicious, sweet flavor.

- Mustard Greens (New): Related to kale, cabbage, and collard greens, they are the tasty, peppery leafy greens of the mustard plant and are used frequently in Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cooking

- Arugula (NOT AVAILABLE):  Last week's 6.25" of rain in 36 hours drowned all of our market ready arugula - sorry.  Next week, we should be back in business.  

- Bok Choy:  bright green member of the cabbage family brings flavor, vitamins, and a delightful crunch to any recipe.

- Beets, Chioggia and Golden:  We have an excellent supply for market. Come and get'em...Yum!

- Broccoli Raab (a.k.a, Rapini): a delicious, slightly bitter green that is a favorite in Italian cuisine.

- Hakurai Turnips:  Japanese white, so sweet, crisp turnips, and don't forget the wonderful, healthy greens that are delicious simply sauteed.  

- Baby Ginger:  More of our amazing ginger is coming your way this Saturday.  We have the first of our fresh, sweet, aromatic ginger coming to market.

-  Sweet Potatoes:  Two varities this week!  Murasaki (New), a purple-skinned, white-fleshed sweet potatoe with nutty flavor.  Beauregard, large and reddish  with a moist, deep orange sweet flelsh

- Lettuce:  Romaine, Bibb, Red, and Green!

- Oranos Sweet Peppers: tasty, sweet, raw or cooked.

- Padron Peppers: Delicious sauteed as a Spanish tapas. About every 15th is hot.  

- Jalapeno Peppers: essential to any salsa

Hello Everyone,

Life is good on the farm with the steady rains and cooler temperatures.  The fall season crops are rock'n!  So come out and see us Saturday at the market - rain or shine.

- Swiss Chard, Rainbow:  super healthy, but most importantly tasty sauteed or braised.

- Hakurai Turnips:  Japanese white, so sweet, crisp turnips, and don't forget the wonderful, healthy greens that are delicious simply sauteed.  We always sell-out of these turnips so come early.  

- Baby Ginger:  More of our amazing ginger is coming your way this Saturday.  We have the first of our fresh, sweet, aromatic ginger coming to market.

- Tomatoes:  Last of 2013!  Supply is limited  

- Radishes: Sweet, rosy, and sometimes spicy Pink Beauties, French Breakfast and Oster Grusse.

- Arugula (Rocket):  Love it or hate it, we have it and plenty of it.

-  Sweet Potatoes:  We roast them in the oven @ 400 degrees, tossed with olive oil and sea salt.  OMG!!!

- Lettuce:  Romaine, Bibb, Red and Green!

- Oranos Sweet Peppers

- Padron Peppers: Delicious sauteed as a Spanish tapas. About every 15th is hot.  

- Jalapeno Peppers: essential to any salsa

Hello Everyone,

It's early October, sunny and warm...Indian summer? We think so!  
Then come on out, when it's cool in the morning and enjoy the best vegetables that summer and fall have to offer.  

For this week, we'll have the following veggies:

- Scallions (New):  the first of fall, fresh green onions.

- Beets (New): Chioggia and Golden...yum!

- Swiss Chard: ...is back!

- Summer Squash:  We still have sweet, nutty Patty Pan and Zephyr.

- Hakurai Turnips:  Japanese white, so sweet turnips, and don't forget the wonderful, crisp, healthy greens that are so tasty sauteed.

- Baby Ginger:  We have the first of our fresh, sweet, aromatic ginger coming to market - limited supply.

- Tomatoes:  Come and get them, we're getting close to the end of their 2013 season!  Big Beef, Sun Gold and Green Zebra heirlooms.  

 - Radishes: Sweet, rosy Pink Beauties and French Breakfast.
