Hello Farm Friends!

The tomato tsunami wave has hit! We have red and orange slicers, heirlooms, cherry tomatoes AND canning tomatoes (Details below and in separate email. Reserve 1 or more boxes now!).  The other big news is that we have a very sweet, just-the-right-size, seedless variety of watermelon. AND a new Fingerling potato.  Please see photos below and simple recipes at www.sassafrascreekfarm/recipe.

Please check out below what we'll have at market!

- Watermelon (New Varieties!):  We have a very sweet, seedless variety, as well as a two sweet and tasty seeded varieties, a yellow outside/red inside variety, and a small, personal-sized watermelon, when you just want one for yourself.

- Potatoes, La Ratte Fingerling (New!):  If you've been hearing about fingerling potatoes, but never tried them, now's your chance!  These potatoes are seen on fine dining restaurant menus and are delicious roasted or simply boiled.

- Green Zebra Tomatoes (New!):  The green tangy heirloom tomato that you've been waiting for is here, but in limited quantities, since this is the first flush of green zebras.  More as the summer progresses.

- Canning Tomatoes (New!):  20-lb boxes of certified organic tomatoes for just $20! What a deal! Reserve a box today for pick-up at market tomorrow. If you've never canned, no worries! You can always make sauce and freeze or just freeze them whole. You’ll find easy instructions at www.sassafrascreekfarm.com/recipeTo RESERVE 1 or more boxes, please email us at sassafrascreekfarm@gmail.com, and provide your NameNumber of BoxesPhone Number, and approximate Time you will pick up at market (9am to 1pm). Note that if you haven't picked up your box by noon tomorrow, we will sell to another customer, UNLESSyou let us know that you will be picking up after noon (market ends at 1pm). Thank you!

- Arugula:  For you arugula addicts, we've got plenty of that fresh, spicy green you literally crave. :-)

- Basil:  Fresh, intoxicatingly aromatic Italian basil. Great on pizza, on sandwiches, in salads and of course as pesto!.  See our pesto recipe on our website. Must have basil with tomato caprese!

- Beets:  Great either boiled or roasted, like a potato.  The perfect combination is beets with goat cheese and walnuts on a bed of arugula!

- Cucumbers:  We have more this week of two kinds of sweet, tiny-seeded cukes: traditional and asian (similar to English).

- Garlic:  Fresh garlic is so aromatic and so easy to mince! Try some today!

- Lettuce, Green Leaf, Summer Crisp and Romaine:  For your summer salads...lettuce, one frilly and one crisp, and both tasty! It's also the perfect time of year to enjoy  fresh, crisp romaine lettuce in a caesar salad.

- Rolled Oats (Oatmeal):  Like last year, we are selling rolled oats, from oats grown on our farm. They have a wonderful nutty flavor and are certified organic, like all of our produce! Cook them as you would Quaker oatmeal. 2:1 ratio of water to oats; cook for 5 mins or until desired consistency.

- Red Onions:  Freshly harvested sweet red onions that are so versatile and great in any dish. Delicious roasted on the grill over indirect heat.

- Super Sweet Superstar Onions:  If you've been to our stand over the years, then you know these super sweet onions!  They are large, white and very similar to vidalia onions. They are sooo good raw on burgers, in salads, or sauteed until caramalized. Make sure you cook them on a med-low heat, because the sugars in them can burn if too hot.

- Oranos Sweet Orange Peppers:  Bright orange, shiny and sweet. So, good raw or grilled!  We have still more this week.

- Potatoes, Red, Blue and German Butterball:  Three varieties of tasty irish potatoes.  The blue potatoes are blue inside and out, full of anti-oxidants, and great for making crispy fries or roasting.  German Butterballs are a creamy yellow/white and great for boiling, roasting or making mashed potates. And we have our delicious Moutain Rose (red) potatoes, which are absolutely delicious and very versatile.

- Shishito Peppers:  Japanese appetizer peppers that are so delicious and easy to prepare. Just toss the whole pint of peppers into a skillet of olive oil, on medium heat; saute until they shrivel and char, just slightly. Drain peppers onto a paper towel and then plate up with a sprinkle of sea salt, served with an ice cold beer or dry white wine. Eat the whole pepper, except stem. Maybe 1 in 10 have some very mild heat.  Enjoy!

- Zucchini and Yellow Summer Squash :  Perfect for your grilling!

- Cherry Tomatoes:  We have your favorite orange, red and yellow cherry tomatoes.  They each have their own flavor some sweet and tangy and some sweet with less acid. Everyone finds their favorite and this is just the beginning of a season of sweet treats! See photo.

- Tomatoes, Heirloom and Red and Orange Slicers:  We have delicious German Johnson and Green Zebra heirloom and traditional, red and orange slicing tomatoes. We have a lot this week! See photo.

Don't worry about having cash at our stand, since we take credit, debit and SNAP cards.

The market has additional vegetable vendors, as well as beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and baked goods.

So, we hope to see you, your friends and family members on Saturday (BAE parking lot, 9am - 1pm).
