BAE Farmer's Market is OPEN - Saturday, 9 am - 1 pm (until 19 Nov)

Posted 7/22/2016 4:10pm by David Paulk.

Hello Farm Friends!

It's just too hot to talk long.  We will be at the market with some new delicious summer vegetables for you! Just think how great your cookout is going to be with all these wonderful, fresh flavors.  So, we hope to see you, your friends and family there!

Please check out below what we'll have at market!

- Spaghetti Squash (New!): For all you gluten free, low-carb, paleo, vegetarian, and everyone else in beteween...we've got fresh spaghetti squash for you!  So easy to microwave for just 15 mins after poking with a knife all over (important to remember). When cool, slice in half, scoop out seeds, and run a fork over the inside to release golden, sweet strands of yummy squash. Just top with spaghetti sauce, toss with pesto or sauteed vegetables, or anything you like. It's that easy.

- Tomato 2nds (New!):  We have 25-lb boxes of tomatoes for $25 that may have a cosmetic defect or are a little over-ripe, but are otherwise perfect for fresh eating, canning, cooking down into sauce. It's super easy. See our Web site for easy sauce-making recipes.  If you know you want one, just send an email to sassafrascreekfarm@gmail.com and we'll hold it for you to pick up at market tomorrow between 9 am - 1 pm. Please provide your name and a number to reach you.

 - Padron Peppers (New!): If you've been to our stand last year, you will recognize these wonderful Spanish tapas peppers. Just saute whole in olive oil, until shriveled, put on a plate and sprinkle sea salt on top. Serve to your guests with a nice cold beer or dry white wine, and you have a special, delicious, addicting treat.

- Green Zebra Tomatoes (New):  These onions are green and striped AND ripe! They are really tangy and make a delicious, pretty salsa mixed with red tomatoes. (Limited Quantity)

- Arugula (Back!): That spicy green is back! We know you missed it. If you haven't tried our topped beets, roasted and sliced, on a bed of fresh arugula and goat cheese with walnuts, well, you haven't lived. What an amazing combination!

- Basil: There is nothing else like the aromatic smell or flavor of fresh basil with tomatoes or sauteed vegetables!

- Beets, Red (topped):  Try your sweet beet wrapped in foil and roasted (rub skins off when cool) or simply peel like a potato and boil until fork tender. Then either serve warm with butter or cool on a bed lettuce with goat cheese and walnuts...amazing combination!

- Cucumbers:  We have two types of fresh, crisp cukes to choose from for your salads, a traditional and an Asian variety (similar to English cukes), both sweet, small seeds and tasty.

- Garlic: We have big, freshly harvested garlic for you! If you've never tasted fresh garlic, now's your chance.  So, easy to mince!

- Lettuce:  Fresh crunchy romaine and summer crisp lettuce. Enjoy a cool salad this week!

- Red Onions :  Freshly harvested. Tasty grilled (low to medium flame), sauteed or raw. These are crisper, fresher, sweeter and better tasting than any onions you'll get in the grocery store.

- Superstar Sweet Onions:  Yes, we have those wonderful vidalia-like sweet white onions that are wonderful raw in a salad, sauteed,  caramelized or grilled.

- Potatoes, Red, White and Blue!  We have three kinds of tasty potatoes for you to try.  Mountain Rose is a great multi-use potato, pretty in potato salad with their blush color.  Your favorite blue potatoes that are great for roasting or frying, because they turn brown and crisp so nicely. We also have the German Butterball white potato that is similar to a Yukon gold and wonderful in mashed potatoes or boiled. Frankly, all three potatoes are great for many uses. Try one or all three...We have a mix for you!

- Shallots:  If you've never tried shallots, well now is the perfect time. They are in the onion family, but have their own unique, mild flavor that chefs love.  Wonderful sauteed with any veggies, but just imagine them sauteed with green beans...yum!

- Summer Squash (3 kinds!):  The season is finally here and we have 3 wonderful varieties for you to try, including golden zucchini, green zucchini and zephyr.

- Cherry Tomatoes: Yes, these are your favorite orangey-gold sweet and tangy treats. Plus the red, sweet treat, lower acid cherry tomatoes.  Something delicious for everyone!

- Tomatoes:  We'll have lots of delicious heirloom and slicing tomatoes for you to choose from in all sizes. The German Johnson heirlooms are quite large early in the season and have a nice balanced (sweet to acid) flavor that tastes great! We also have really good traditional red slicing tomatoes that are also balanced in sweet to acid.

 - Personal-Sized Watermelon (New!): Back this year, by popular demand, your favorite so sweet Japanese Icebox watermelons.

Don't worry about having cash at our stand -- we take credit, debit & SNAP.
